China launches crackdown on entertainment venues Beijing, Sept 24 (PTI) Chinese authorities have launched a crackdown on illegal parlours, karaoke halls, saunas, and Internet cafes following the arrest of a person who allegedly abducted six women and kept them as sex slaves in a basement for two years. Li Hao, a 34-year-old former civil servant, had dug two rooms underneath the basement he bought in Luoyang city, Henan, four years ago.
He then kidnapped the women, all of whom are said to have worked in nightclubs or bars. He was detained on September 6 after one of his captives escaped and led police to the underground prison, state-run China Daily reported. He is also accused of killing two of his victims. The horrific nature of the case has shocked the nation, prompting local authorities to launch an overhaul of entertainment venues -- beauty parlors, karaoke halls, saunas, and Internet cafes, while boosting an "online cleansing" campaign to crack down on porn websites, the report said.
