Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has announced Rs 1,000 crore for disaster relief measures in flood-devastated parts of Uttarakhand where 102 persons have been killed and thousands left stranded at tourist spots and pilgrim centres.
As water level in the Yamuna in Delhi inched closer to breaking the 207.49 metres mark, low-lying areas along the river were flooded on Wednesday, the highest in recorded history.
UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi will lay the foundation stone for the 7th and 8th unit of the thermal power plant in Sriganganagar district in Rajasthan on Thursday.
With skies clearing, rescue of stranded people and relief operations intensified on Wednesday in Uttarakhand where the death toll in the rain and floods shot up to 150 as thousands of pilgrims still remained stranded.
