Treading a cautious line on the Delhi High Court verdict decriminalising homosexuality, the BJP has said it was yet to discuss and reach an opinion on the issue.
"We (BJP) have not been able to discuss the issue and make up our mind yet," Deputy Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj told reporters at New Delhi on Thursday.
She said the UPA government itself seemed to be divided on the issue.
"The Home and Health ministries in the previous government had differences on Section 377. They had submitted different affidavits in court on the issue. Now the UPA government has asked the Law ministry to help reach a consensus between the two ministries," Swaraj said.
When asked if the BJP had formed an opinion on the issue, she said, "First the government should give its opinion on the issue." However, she added that BJP was not waiting for the UPA government before arriving at a decision.
BJP leader and MP Murli Manohar Joshi, however, expressed his disapproval of the high court judgement legalising gay sex among consenting adults.
Swaraj said she could not react to the opinion expressed by Joshi as she was not aware of the details. (DD-2.7)
