Three new Supreme Court judges sworn in

Three new Supreme Court judges, Justice G S Singhvi, Aftab Alam and J M Panchal have been sworn in by the Chief Justice of India K G Balakrishnan on Monday.

The oath of office was administered at 1030 hrs in the Supreme Court.

With Monday's appointment, the total strength of judges in Supreme Court has gone up to 25 against the sanctioned strength of 26.

Till now, there is no women judge in the Supreme Court.

The only women judge Rumapal had retired in November last year.

Justice Singhvi is from Andhra Pradesh High Court, Justice Aftab Alam is from Jammu and Kashmir High Court, and Justice Panchal is from Rajasthan High Court.
